What will you learn?
The Pre-Intermediate 1 Course is devised into 4 main chapters, namely:
- Vivre ensemble | Living together
- Le goût des nôtres | The joy of ‘us’
- Travailler autrement | Different working methods
- Date limite de consommation | The expiry date
Elementary Level 2 is a minimum requirement to be qualified for this course.
This course is 20 hours long and costs AED 2,700, (USD 735) materials inclusive.

Course Outline
Recall vocabulary about Food items and Culinary preparations; Give opinions about crazy dishes; Understand expressions with Food items. For example, “To tell salads (to tell lies)”.
Discover the existence of Cooperative Supermarkets; Review the use of the Present Subjunctive; Use Obligation and Prohibition expressions to list conditions for participating in a Cooperative Supermarket; Give purchasing advice to a friend. For example, “You should check the expiry date of the products before buying.”
Recall and learn new vocabulary about Accommodation and Neigbourhood; Study documents about Living alongside Neighbours; Discover Neighbour’s Day; List permissions that need to be sought from neighbours; Complain about a neighbour.
Communicate about one’s preferences regarding housing locations; Use the Infinitive, Subjunctive and Conditional forms to advise a friend about Moving. For example, “If I were in your shoes, I would move to Cannes.”
Weigh the pros and cons of Shared Living; Discuss about a Student’s Accommodation for Chefs and suggest new ideas for the project; Learn expressions for Congratulating and Wishing others. For example, “I would like to congratulate you on the success of your recipe!”
Gather vocabulary about Courtesy from a text with the theme Driving; Use Privative Prefixes and the structures “no more, nothing, neither … nor, never ever, not more than” to speak about what one can and cannot do on the road. For example,“It is totally unacceptable to park one’s car in the middle of the road. Nobody does that!”
Review and learn new vocabulary related to Family Members; Describe the relationships between Family members in one’s country; Understand a text about someone of different origins and discuss about the pros and cons.
Listen to an audio about different Generations; Study documents about Genealogy and share opinions about the importance of knowing one’s Roots; Elaborate on the importance of parents and parenthood in one’s life.
Review the use of the Past Simple and Imperfect tenses; Use expressions of Joy to share memories and tell anecdotes from a Family Album. For example, “I remember that it was on a Friday. I was so excited to be part of my parents’ wedding.”
Review vocabulary related to Informatics; Apply Time Indicators to compare differences between ancient and new family albums. For example, “It’s been about five years now since families are no longer printing their wedding album. They only publish it on social networks.”
Watch a video about a major Family Reunion; Describe States of Being and Feelings on meeting with long lost family members; Listen to and discuss about a document about managing Emotions.
Develop one’s knowledge about Reflexive verbs in the Past tense to talk about Grandparents. For example, “The last time we spoke to each other, she fell asleep over the phone.”; Gather ideas from a text about Super Grandparents to summarize the importance of grandparents in the family.

Discover professions that have been feminized in the French language; Speak about what motivates women to work in the current generation; Discuss about a text on Generations of Workers; Imagine how the next generation will live and work.
