Course Outline

  1. Develop vocabulary about Cinema (Genres and Professions); Read and understand a document on TV Series; Differentiate between TV Series and Blockbuster Movies.
  2. Explore the status of Cinema in one’s country; Discover local 
    Film Productions; Find out about how a film is made; Consider key factors for a successful film (Promotion, Premiere, Launch; Broadcast, etc.). 
  3. Watch a video on Critics; Criticize a TV series by summarizing the plot, evaluating the acting and suggesting changes that would tighten the grasp on an audience. For example, “Doing so gave away the rest of the story. The glasses should not have been portrayed in this scene.” 
  4. Explore TV series on a French website; Publish a critic; Come to a definition of a perfect TV series by detailing the actors, scenes, music, plot, direction and broadcast. 
  5. List things that trigger fear; Reflect on what makes a Horror movie scary (expressions, music, creepy spiders, etc.); Convince a friend to watch all the seasons of a Horror TV Series; Determine what turns someone into a Cinephile.

  3. Read and gather ideas about Strategies to develop memorising skills; Gain understanding about Kinesthetic, Visual and Auditive Learning to discuss about how one can better learn a language. For example, “We can better remember a new word if we’ve written it down on paper, as so-doing, we’re activating both senses – Sight and Touch.”  
  4. Acquire vocabulary about Memory Loss; Discover about the Alzheimer’s Disease; List symptoms, causes and effects of the disease; Study and communicate about the rise of Memory Complications in different countries. 
  5. Argue about the trustworthiness of Sleep, Meditation and Sports in strengthening Memory; Advise a neighbour who is susceptible to Alzheimer’s Disease on how to decrease its possibility; Use expressions of Reassurance in conversation.

  1. Recall vocabulary around the theme of Music, Instruments and Artists; Identify different styles of music (Rap, Rock, Pop, Jazz, etc.) and share one’s musical preferences; Talk about the latest musical trends in one’s region. 
  2. Relate one’s experience of learning a Musical Instrument; Compare the challenges of learning Music to learning a Language; Identify key motivational factors for learning how to play an instrument; Assess the importance of studying Music as a school subject. 
  3. Watch and understand a video about Claude Debussy and associate characteristics to every identified instrument; Communicate about how Music is linked to Passion; Argue about whether famous musical artists owe their success solely to their passion.

Identify expressions of Resistance from a text; Discuss the roles ancient Art played in rebellions and resistance; Deduce how messages passed in songs could change depending on the chosen style of music.   5. Share likes and dislikes about typical Rap; Understand a recording about Rap Artists; Differentiate between Passion and Inspiration; Comment on the stereotypes of French Rap artists. For example, “Rap artists are always in a fury.”

  1. Refresh vocabulary about Books, Literature and Literary Artists; Share about one’s favourite reads of all time and relate how it has marked one’s life; Research about the topmost famous books in history and collect information about what makes them stand out. 
  2. List different pieces of writing one does on a daily basis (Emails, Whatsapp messages; Social Media post; etc.); Consider other reasons why people write; Discuss about the pleasures of reading and writing; List advantages and reasons to encourage children to read and write more. 
  3. Identify key factors that reveal a talented writer; Discover and comment on the works of Jean-Paul Sartre; Imagine and enact an interview with a world-famous author; Learn about famous Literary functions and Awards (Nobel Literature Prize, Goncourt, Renaudot, Femina, etc.). 
  4. Discuss about changes in the value of books over the years; Share emotions about books; State instances when one feels free to annotate on books and when one fears to ruin it. For example, “I need to think twice before annotating on a religious book, but in my French workbook, the more I write, the better.” 
  5. State one’s preferences between borrowing or buying books;

  6. Present a famous Publishing House in the region; Find out about the Steps in publishing a book; Argue about important publishing laws and copyrights; Infer about writing a book in French and communicate about it.

  3. Share viewpoints about people opting for bionic organs, antiageing treatments and genome selection; Talk about Medical Rehabilitation; Argue about whether people having been medically rehabilitated (with a pacemaker, prothesis, etc.) are humans or transhumans. 
  4. Understand a recording about Artificial Intelligence; Discuss about the advantages and limitations of Robots; Identify the dangers of Robotics in the world of employment and the risks it poses to the society. 
  5. Discuss about Robotics being the incursion of the future; Predict about whether the Human Race will be overtaken by Artificial Intelligence; Conceptualize a world where Robots rule. 
  6. Give reasons for and against bringing a Robot home; Share opinions about having Pet Robots; Converse about whether robots should have rights like humans do; Cogitate about human aspects that robots would never be able to replicate. 
  1. Develop vocabulary about Taste; Analyze Figures of Speech and Syllable structure (octosyllable, decasyllable, free prose, etc.) of a poem on Mouth; Characterize different types of food.

  2. Develop vocabulary about Sight and Hearing; Analyze the organization of Verses and Stanzas in a poem on
    Correspondence; Discuss about the mix and prevalence of some senses over the others in society.

  3. Develop vocabulary about Smell; Understand a recording about the sense of Smell; Highlight societal reasons for deodorizing society; Discover the Fragrance Industry and Perfume production; Compare the senses generated from different perfumes and evaluate their worthiness.

  4. Watch a video on the sense of Touch; Share knowledge and reflect upon the different ways in which people greet each other (handshake, kiss, bow, etc.); Share one’s opinions about Free Huggers in the streets; Relate an experience about a Massage.

  5. Understand metaphors about all five Senses; Use metaphors and expressions about Senses to extensively write compositions about pleasant and unpleasant souvenirs.

  6. Imagine different worldly situations deprived of Senses (a restaurant in the dark, a soundless movie, virtual relationships becoming the norm, etc.); Compose a poem applying the learnt knowledge to highlight the importance of balancing the Senses.
