Course Outline

  1. Learn vocabulary about Personal Life Milestones (to grow up, to get married, to have children, etc.) and about Professional Life (start a career, make contacts, succeed in projects, etc.)

  2. Differentiate between verbs of the First, Second and Third groups; Conjugate verbs from all groups in the Past Simple tense to speak about key achievements in one’s life; Add details using “since, it has been, during”.

  3. Listen and understand some musical artists speak about their life milestones; Introduce a family member or friend in the same way. For example, “My brother, Jeremy, was born in Chicago but spent his childhood in New York. He then moved to France (…)”

  4. Recall vocabulary related to Hobbies and Interests; Gather new vocabulary about Indoor Games and Outdoor Sports; Use the verbs “to love, to interest, to prefer and to be passionate about”; Watch a video about The Passion of Breakdance and infer ideas about the dancers.

  5. Propose and schedule an outing; Practice with phrases to accept and refuse an invitation.

  6. Write a dialogue using different forms of negation with “anyone, anything, never, no more/anymore”.

  1. Learn vocabulary about Memories at different periods in life (school, youth, family, holidays) and categorize the memories using a number of positive and negative Adjectives; Recall where to place an adjective in a sentence.
  2. Master the use of the Imperfect tense to describe actions in the past; Study a document and discuss about one of someone’s childhood memory (Dourouff, the clown).
  3. Listen to some people narrate their unforgettable childhood memories; Relate one’s own childhood memories using a mix of the Past Simple and Imperfect tenses. For example, “When I was a child, I used to travel to Spain for summer holidays.”
  4. Distinguish between the five senses (sight, sound, smell, taste and touch) and describe memories triggered by each. For example, “When I eat guavas, I remember when I used to go guava-picking with my cousins in the 1990s.”
  5. Review the use of Pronoun “y” to refer to places and “noun+à”; Learn the use of the Pronoun “en” to refer to “noun+de”; Play guesses about places and activities using both adverbial pronouns “y” and “en”.
  6. Study a document about French Holidays; Write about one’s good and bad school holidays in the past; Embellish the composition using extended vocabulary (the sea, the countryside, the weather, famous landmarks, etc.)
 
  1. Recall vocabulary about accommodation; Write about one’s favourite part of the house using Relative Pronouns “qui, que, où”.

  2. Read and discuss about a text on living on a Barge.

  3. Get familiar with terms used in Real Estate; Understand the Real Estate posts in Classifieds; Write a Classified Ad to rent out an apartment.

  4. Acquire vocabulary about the different furniture and equipment in an accommodation; Watch and understand a video about Living in Paris.

  5. Use Comparative structures (+adjective, +adverb, +noun, +verb) to compare one’s room with another; Apply Possessive Pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) to avoid repetition; Compare housing in Paris and in Montreal.

  6. Discover cities of the future via the documents; Infer how cities have changed and continue changing using the structure “être en train de + infinitive”.

  1. Acquire vocabulary about Science and Technology; State the use of each machine or technology; Understand a document about Human versus Machine.

  2. Think about jobs that would disappear over the next few years; Apply the Simple Future tense (regular and irregular verbs); Imagine what new jobs of the future would be like; Communicate about future intentions.

  3. Use the Conditional forms (If + Present à Present/Future/Imperative) to imagine happenings in the future based on changes made in the present. For example, “If we reduce our use of mobile phones, we will have more time together.”

  4. Learn vocabulary related to Technology and Communication. For example, “switch on, charge, surf the Internet, download a video, etc.”; Describe what one can do with one of the latest gadgets.

  5. Summarize a document about how the French language is changing; Discuss about similar changes in other languages.

  6. Watch a video about The Internet of Objects; Discuss about the pros and cons of smart objects by applying the pronoun “on”; List what one is allowed and not allowed to do on the Internet.

  1. Gather ideas from a document and advise a friend on how to stay in shape and have good sleep.

  2. Recall vocabulary related to the Body; Learn new vocabulary to refer to other parts of the Body; State what is wrong with oneself. For example, “I have a cold and I’m coughing a lot.”; Listen to a document in conversation with a doctor and then enact the dialogue.

  3. List what is allowed and prohibited in a hospital by using structures “We must, It is prohibited, It is disallowed, It is necessary, etc.”

  4. Learn vocabulary related to Medicines and the Pharmacy; Analyze a medical prescription; Imagine a dialogue between a pharmacist and a patient.

  5. Understand the use of the Subjunctive form to stress on importance of actions; Apply the Subjunctive form (regular and irregular) in discussing about Alternate Medicine.

  6. Study documents about Seasonal Allergies; Relate about common allergies in one’s country.

  1. Recall and acquire new vocabulary about Food items, Quantities and Containers.

  2. Study a text about Food Wastage; Share one’s opinion by agreeing and disagreeing with different initiatives by applying the structure “ne … que”.

  3. Analyze a document about different restaurants and a text about Alain Passard; Use the Superlative form to compare restaurants. For example, “This is the best place to have a steak in town.”; Express one’s preference about restaurants. For example, “For me, the most important is the taste of the food.

  4. Learn vocabulary related to the Menu; Understand a conversation between a waiter and a client; Practice the dialogue to ask questions about a menu.

  5. Narrate about a disappointing experience at a restaurant; Express oneself by composing a comment for an online forum; Add Adverbs for more emphasis. For example, “It is surely a way of attracting tourists.”

  6. Watch and discuss about a video on Taste; Identify Specialty dishes from different countries; Give a short presentation on a restaurant, its particular taste and its specialties.
